From Summer Camp to Battle of the Bands Winner, Bass Guitarist and Vocalist Colin Strives for Growth

Colin started at Bach to Rock about 6 years ago when he attended a summer camp program. And he really loved it! At the time, he was busy with other activities, but his Bach to Rock experience was so positive his family registered him for guitar lessons and the band program in 2022. His parents say that they have been “hooked on the experience ever since!”
Today, fourteen-year-old Colin participates in two bands, Invasion 66 and Fear the Hammer. Invasion 66 recently won the middle school division in their local 2025 Battle of the Bands competition! So, how did this young man grow so quickly from beginning guitar lessons to Battle of the Bands winner? Hard work!! His mom Sara also compliments his instructors and bandmates, “Colin has been paired with some great musicians who have continually motivated him to continue learning and growing. It has never been an issue to get Colin to practice. As soon as he walks in the door from school, he picks up his bass. In the past year, this has grown to include both studio and external performances. Without his amazing teachers, this would have never been possible.”

Colin shares that his first performance at Bach to Rock was with Invasion 66. “I was nervous to be up on the stage for the first time. But it’s great to look back on how much I have improved over the years.” Colin’s favorite memory was when their new lead guitarist, Matas, came into practice for the first time. “I played with him before in another band, and knew he’d be the perfect fit.” He says he was so proud of himself and the band when they won their first battle. “It was special to me because all of our hard work paid off.”
Sara adds that Colin grew up listening to rock music so the name Bach to Rock caught their eye! She’s also amazed at, “How quickly Colin has grown in what seems like a short time in lessons. It’s been great to see him pick up singing recently through the encouragement of a teacher.” As a parent, Sara says she’s enjoyed the camaraderie of it all, too! Lastly, Sara shares that, “We are so thankful to all of the Bach to Rock leaders and teachers for sharing their passion and knowledge!”
As for Colin, he plans to continue to improve individually and with his bands. We know you’ll do well, Colin. Rock on!
