Student of the Month – Naoki B
Q: What inspired you to play music?
A: I got inspired to play music when I was in 2nd grade when a friend and I were looking at books in the library and found a book titled, “What was Rock and Roll” and I thought I should read it. I saw so many different people and instruments. I then decided to look up on the internet the musician/group I liked the most, which was and still is The Beatles.
Q: What is your favorite style of music?
A: My favorite style of music is rock and roll / rhythm and blues.
Q: Who is your favorite artist and why?
A: My favorite artist is The Beatles. Their songs were the first that I really connected to. A close 2nd would be Chuck Berry.
Q: What is your favorite song to play?
A: My favorite song to play on guitar would be The Rolling Stones’ Around and Around. I like it because of the guitar work from Keith Richards and Brian Jones.
Q: What are you learning right now in your lessons?
A: In my guitar lesson we are learning hammer-ons and bends. In my band lesson we just finished a song and are still trying to figure out our next.
Q: What are you most looking forward to learning/performing?
A: I am looking forward to learning more songs with Mr. Brandon and I am looking forward to performing more with my band.
Q: What’s your favorite thing about Bach to Rock?
A: My favorite thing about Bach to Rock is how it is a place for people who love and want to learn music. They are there because they want to learn music which you can’t say about some other places like normal schools.
Q: What is your favorite thing about your teacher?
A: My favorite thing about Mr. Brandon is that he lets me choose the songs I want to play as well as talking about New Jersey (where he and my dad are from). My favorite thing about Mr. Kevin is that he is not stern. He can laugh and talk about fun and cool things.
Q: What do you enjoy doing when you’re not playing music?
A: My favorite thing to do other than music is to play video games and to watch movies.
Mr. Kevin has been Naoki’s band teacher since March of 2022, and has shared his thoughts on teaching Naoki:
“Naoki is a very talented young man. Not only does he come in prepared for our lessons but he consistently puts his own flair and creativity into the songs that are being played in his band.”
